Appliance hookup guide – general tips

The number one reason for appliance returns is because they do not fit into the intended space
or can’t fit through the doorways or hallways. We’ve put together the following tips to help you avoid the inconvenience and cost of purchasing a product that is not right for you or your space.
In order to prepare for your new appliance purchase and to be ready for your delivery, seeĀ appliance measuring guides.

Additional information below:

1. Measure first!
It’s very important that you measure the area where your appliance will be placed and be sure that your product will fit within the given dimensions. Check the entire pathway that the appliance will take to get to its final destination. Ensure that it will fit through each hallway and doorway on the entire path. An appliance returned because it will not fit will incur a delivery fee and possibly a restocking fee.

2. Check your connections!
Make sure to have an appropriate electric outlet within 3 1/2″ of the space you’ve selected for your new product. Check to see that the outlet is grounded (accepts a three-prong plug), since most appliances require one. For electric dryers and electric ranges, be sure to check for a 240V electric connection.

3. Measure again!
Take another look at the pathway en route to the final destination of your appliance and ensure that your product will fit through the designated space.

Refrigerators and freezers

  • A standard three-prong, grounded electrical outlet must be within reach of the unit’s electrical connection. The typical length of an appliance cord ranges from 3-5 feet.
  • Be sure to check space clearance for complete unit measurements: height, depth and width.
  • Refrigerators with ice makers and water dispensers will need to be connected to a water line. Copper water line installation kits are available for purchase in our stores or online. You can install the water line on your own or contact a local plumber. Warners’ Stellian will hookup an existing water line for a charge.
  • Once installed, a refrigerator / freezer can take up to 24 hours to reach a proper level of coolness.
  • Refer to the installation guide packaged with your product for proper installation.
  • See refrigerator planning guide

Washers

  • A standard three-prong, grounded electrical outlet must be within reach of the unit’s electrical connection. The typical length of an appliance cord ranges from 3-5 feet.
  • Be sure to check space clearance for complete unit measurements: height, depth and width.
  • Hoses are not supplied with most new washing machines and need to be purchased separately. Standard rubber hoses and stainless steel hoses are available for purchase in our stores or online. The new hoses will need to be connected to existing water lines prior to running the first cycle.
  • Refer to the installation guide packaged with your product for proper installation.
  • Per Minnesota state code, hammer arrestors are required for washer installation. See your sales associate for full details and cost.

Dryers

electric dryers

  • Be sure to check space clearance for complete unit measurements: height, depth and width.
  • Plan to leave an adequate space behind the dryer for vent connections (roughly 5 inches).
  • A standard 240v electric connection is required for all electric dryers. Electrical outlets differ so depending on the configuration of the outlet, your dryer may require a three prong cord or a four prong cord. You can use your existing dryer cord though it is highly recommended that you purchase a new cord for safety reasons. Dryer cords are available for purchase in our stores or online.
  • Refer to the installation guide packaged with your product for proper installation.
  • See laundry planning guide

  • Be sure to check space clearance for complete unit measurements: height, depth and width.
  • Plan to leave an adequate space behind the dryer for vent connections.
  • New gas dryers do not include gas connections. Gas flex and connector are available for purchase in our stores or online. Warners’ Stellian can provide professional installation services, if needed. Costs vary.
